Listed as Threatened in Michigan. Only known from 6 counties in Michigan; Kalamazoo and Cass counties have the only populations that have been reported in the last two decades. Seeds are ejected and ants also disperse seeds. Usually only found in high quality prairie remnants. Host for Fritillary butterflies. Flowers usually visited by small bees, beetles and small butterflies.
