Prefers full sun. Usually blooms earlier than its larger relatives. Very drought tolerant. Frequently visited by butterflies, particularly Monarchs, but also bees, wasps, flies, and moths. Voles sometimes dig up the corms. Liatris species bloom from the top of the flowering stalk down.
