A prairie and oak savanna species. Now extremely rare in Michigan and listed as Endangered. Formerly occurred in Kalamazoo, Kent, St. Joseph, and St. Clair counties, but this species is likely extant only in Cass and Washtenaw counties. The flowers are visited by mostly bumblebees and beetles.
