Occurring in many forest communities; but most common in Beech-Maple and rich Oak forests in SW Michigan. Can form carpets of flowers blanketing the forest floor in ideal habitats. Typically sets seed and goes completely dormant by the end of May in southern Michigan. An adorable bellwether for the approaching warmer weather.
