Schoenoplectus pungensCommon Names: Three-Square, Three-Square BulrushSynonym(s): Scirpus americanus | Soil: Wet | |
Height: 2 ft - 5 ft | ||
Blooming: May Jun Jul |
A common bulrush of many wetlands including the shorelines of lakes and ponds, fens, river floodplains, swamps and sedge meadows. The culm (stem) is easily recognizable as it is strongly three-angled and distinct. This species can be either an emergent in shallow water or grow in soils which are wet most of the year. It will withstand temporary drier conditions if the soil stays somewhat moist. This species spreads by rhizomes and is often found in large colonies. It's a superb species for shoreline restorations.
