Listed as Threatened in Michigan. This plant is quite adaptable ranging from oak woodlands to mesic prairies. From my observations it appears quite palatable to both mammals and insects, but I could not find many references to insect herbivores other than seed predators. It is largely pollinated by bees and moths.
