Listed as Threatened in Michigan. The foliage resembles a yucca; a very unusual and eye-catching species. Flowers attract a diverse range of bees, wasps, flies, butterflies, moths, beetles, and plant bugs. Leaves are rarely eaten by mammals. This is the only larval host plant for a rare moth, the Rattlesnake Master Borer (Papaipema eryngii) which is endangered in IL and extirpated in IN. This moth is not listed in MI and little other information was available.
