Asclepias tuberosaCommon Name: Butterfly Milkweed | Soil: Dry Dry-Mesic Mesic | |
Height: 1.5 ft - 3 ft | ||
Blooming: Jun Jul |
Best growth in full sun. Typically found in sandy soil or on slopes. Very robust tap root and extremely drought tolerant. Excellent nectar producing species that attracts many bees, wasps, butterflies, and moths. A favorite of Fritillaries. Often listed as unpalatable to mammals due to bitterness and cardiac glycosides, but I have witnessed browsing damage multiple times. A host to many insect herbivores.
