Found in a variety of wetlands and is adaptable. The main pollinator is larger bees, but it is also visited by some butterflies, moths, and beetles. It is rarely eaten by mammals. It does well in mesic landscapes, particularly if lightly shaded and watered during droughts. There is a yellow iris of wetlands, Iris pseudacorus, which is often mistaken as a native, but it is from Europe,Asia and Africa and invasive.
