Although the flowers are short-lived, they are a welcome sign of the approaching warmth. The uniquely shaped leaves continue expanding after flowering and remain throughout summer if sufficient moisture is available. Typically found in beech/maple and floodplain forests in our area. The seeds are dispersed by ants.
